Kentish Town, 1918

Established in 1890 in Kentish Town, Hornsby Interiors remains a family business, with generations of experience in interior design and restoration.

Pictured above you can see the Hornsby family posed outside the original store in 1918, celebrating the end of the Great War. A motley crew, perhaps, but the Hornsby association with antiques and furniture was already apparent then, and has stood the test of time.

South Kensington, 2008

Through over a century, while fashions and governments have changed, and at times financial crisis has prevailed, as a small family business we have survived and developed.

And from our current location in the heart of South Kensington we continue to have the pleasure of serving clients new and old in maintaining and restoring their antiques and fulfilling their modern furnishing requirements.

Our unique approach to antique wood furniture

An innovative service we also provide is to oil, with our exclusive patented Antique Furniture Food, the bare wood or underside of furniture drained of natural moisture due to central heating.

Offering a professional exterior clean of old wax followed by treatment on the bare wood areas, this protects against warping and splitting caused by centrally heated interiors much drier than those for which traditional wooden furnishings were designed.

Anyone who played cricket in their youth can tell you, a coating of linseed oil on a bat during the winter months ensured a healthy set of runs for the following season. The principle is just the same.

In conclusion we take  great pride in what we do,and hope that the continued support of our many clients will continue, so as to retain the old skills sadly diminishing today.
